Obituary of William Horner

December 27, 1938 — September 25, 2020

William Glen Horner, 81, of Independence, Missouri, passed-away on Friday, September 25, 2020.   

Glen was born December 27, 1938 in Cassville, MO, to Amos and Lora (Patterson) Horner.  He served his country in the United States Navy. 

Glen married Linda Sue Pendergrass on August 31, 1960.  He was a Civil War history buff and enjoyed touring the Civil War Battlefields. 

He loved learning new things.  Glen had a pilot license, a real estate license and a certificate as a Master Gardener. 

He worked for the utility plant in Independence, MO.  Glen and his family moved to Hastings, NE and helped get the new power plant up and running.

He worked as the Whelan Energy Center and Electric production superintendent for 20 years until his retirement. 

After his retirement, Glen and his family moved back to Independence, MO, where he pursued his hobbies of woodworking, gardening and spending time fishing with his son and grandson. 

He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda Horner of the home; son, William “Guy” Horner Jr. and his wife Joy, of Independence; daughter Sherrie Horner of Independence; grandson Jason Horner of Independence; four sisters: Louise Corder of OK, Belle Willmann of TX, Melanie Jo Tichenor of MO, and Janie Harvey of MO; three brothers: Charles Horner of AR, Pat Horner of MO, and Mike Horner of OK; and several nieces and nephews.
