Vanessa Jallice

August 6, 1954July 12, 2023

Vanessa Jallice of Gardner, Kansas formerly of Detroit, Michigan fell asleep in death at age 68 on July 12, 2023. Vanessa, also known as Van to family and Honey to her nieces and nephews was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Uralee, and brother Melvin.

Vanessa was born in Ferndale, Michigan and was educated in the Detroit Public Schools. After graduation, Van attended tailoring school and graduated as a tailor and seamstress and she worked for Steve Petix Tuxedo and Formal Wear on Grand River in Livonia, MI for many years.
Vanessa loved to sew and create fashion for family and friends. She also had her own label for clothes she created “Fashions by Vanessa Jallice”. Van made 3-piece suits, dresses, blouses, dashikis, pillows, quilts, hats and ties. Whatever style or fashion could be worn, Van had a pattern for it. With her pin-cushion on her wrist, tape measures around her shoulders; she would take your measurements then go into her sewing room with her various sewing machines and come out with one of a kind suits, pants and dresses.

In the early 1980’s Vanessa began to study the bible with Jehovah Witness and was baptized a Jehovah Witness in 1985. She and her mother attended the Kingdom Hall congregation located on 8 mile and Wyoming in Detroit MI. In 1989 Vanessa and Uralee moved from Detroit, MI to Reston, Virginia to be closer to family.
In Reston Vanessa began a new career working as a dietary and nutrition aid to seniors at the Reston Fellowship House for Seniors. She enjoyed helping seniors with daily task, even teaching many how to sew as a hobby. All the seniors would smile and be so happy on the days Van was working because she walked with the energy of genuinely caring and bringing joy to others.

In 1996 Vanessa moved to Gardner, KS with her sister Tina to help care for her nephews. It was here she renewed her love for sewing making clothes for a whole new generation of family members. She would do alterations for friends and family along with making drapes, tapestry and embroidery. She also started a new hobby of baking; with pancakes, various breads and pies being her specialty, all low-sodium of course. With-in the last year, Van began making her own hair oils and hair creams out of all natural ingredients.

Vanessa enjoyed her bible study and the Congregation meetings on weekends. Although she was not able to attend in person due to health reasons, she attended every week via Zoom for the past 9 years. It often brought joy to her heart when Brother Chaney and his wife along with other members of Hall would stop by after meetings to bring her lunch or her favorite strawberry shake.

Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory: Her brother Derwin Jallice, Sister Tina Jallice, Nieces Dayna Jallice-Fodor and Angle Jallice, Nephews Derwin Jallice Jr., LaMar Bonhom and LaMont Bonhom; Cousins Larry Elom, Donald Davenport, JoAnn Kinney, Marleen Pope, Verna, Jerdein Kirland, Oldlan Kirland, David Shouders Jr., Regina Harris, Jalen Harris, Raphael Hixon, Brenda Anderson-Gilchrest and a host of other cousins, family and friends.

As Uralee would always say “the end of this world happens everyday for many, we just continue to pray and give thanks to Jehovah.” Love you sis, our family saying “tell you like the man told the potato, plant you now… dig you later…. For Stay”
